A number of snow ploughs and gritters are travelling up and down the A9 to keep it moving through the amber warning period. Storm Bert could bring up to 30cm of snow today as wintery conditions sweep across the UK, says weather presenter Kirsty McCabe.

The impact of Storm Bert is continuing as high winds and heavy rain combine with thawing snow to bring the potential of flooding.

Storm Bert has brought heavy snowfall, rain and strong winds as it sweeps through parts of the UK, causing widespread disruption. Snow has fallen across Scotland and parts of northern and central England, alongside the heavy rain and wind that has also hit southern England and Wales.

Dozens of flood warnings and alerts remain in place across England on Sunday as disruption from Storm Bert continues in many parts of the UK. A man in his 60s died on Saturday after a tree hit his car near Winchester, while a number of homes were flooded in counties Down and Tyrone in Northern Ireland.

The Met Office has issued weather warnings as Storm Bert arrives in Britain, prompting a slew of yellow and amber weather alerts. Storm Bert, the second storm of the year, is expected to bring heavy snowfall and rain as well as fast winds across the country this weekend.

A Storm Bert amber warning for snow has been extended in Scotland to cover the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire. The Met Office alert was already in place for parts of the Highlands,

The Met Office has issued snow, ice, wind and rain warnings across the UK and said the low pressure system would be a 'multi-hazard event' following a cold snap. An amber alert for heavy snow and ice will be in force on Saturday from 7am until 5pm.
