Two adoptive parents in California were charged with the murder, torture and child abuse of a 10-year-old boy in their care on Thursday, Nov. 21, authorities said.

Adoptive parents accused of torturing and killing their 10-year-old son have been arrested, California deputies say. Alejandra Marin, 51, and Juan Sanchez Moreno, 59, were arrested on multiple charges, including murder, torture and child abuse in the death of their son, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said in a Nov. 21 news release.

Several hours later, the juvenile’s health declined, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Based on the circumstances, the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was requested to respond and assumed the investigation. The juvenile’s identity will not be disclosed.
