Edmonton’s massive $1 billion Yellowhead Trail conversion project is over budget, leaving the municipality on the hook for another $105 million. Cost overruns were revealed publicly for the first time at city hall this week as council works to set the municipality’s budgets for 2025.

Budget debate is in full swing at Edmonton city hall as the final set of deliberations began Monday.City councillors discussed how to lower the proposed tax increase of 8.1 per cent for 2025 but also the bigger picture of the city's finances.

Although the Mayor and council members are still adjusting to their new roles, they have agreed to limit the proposed property tax hike to 4.96 per cent.
