Comcast Corp is planning to spin off a large part of its NBCUniversal’s cable TV channels into a separate publicly traded company (SpinCo).

In a move that could portend more changes in the declining business of traditional television, Comcast, the parent company of NBC, announced plans on Wednesday morning to break off several of its cable channels and put them into a separate company.

The new company will include the USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and the Golf Channel. Comcast will retain as part of NBCUniversal the NBC broadcast network, including NBC News; NBC Sports; the streaming service Peacock; and the cable channel Bravo.
