New York City has received a green light from the Biden administration to implement a retooled congestion pricing program.

The Federal Highway Administration approved the program on Friday, though it could still be stopped by lawsuits. President-elect Donald Trump is also opposed to the plan.

The Federal Highway Administration last week handed final formal approval to New York's resurrected congestion pricing program to begin tolling drivers starting Jan. 5.

A federal agency approved the revised congestion pricing plan recently introduced by officials in New York, setting the controversial tolling plan on track to begin the morning of Jan. 5, 2025. As NJBIZ has reported,

The authority runs the subway, buses and commuter lines to the suburbs, as well as some tunnels and bridges, and will now implement congestion pricing. On November 18th its board approved the new $9 toll.

New York’s controversial congestion pricing program is no longer paused after Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a modified plan.

New Jersey Sen. George Helmy said congestion pricing could drive businesses out of New York City and into the Garden State on "The Point with Marcia Kramer."

"You've seen over the last two years more and more New York City-based organizations, including business groups, say that this is bad for business and bad for working families in the city," said New Jersey Sen.
