Dougie Hamilton, Timo Meier and Jack Hughes scored on power plays as the New Jersey Devils took advantage of Detroit’s NHL-worst penalty kill in a 5-4 victory over the Red Wings on Friday.

It was a fun atmosphere on a holiday weekday afternoon and an entertaining game, but the Red Wings gladly would have exchanged the result.

The Devils (16-8-2) scored three times on the power play against the league’s worst-rated penalty kill. Jack Hughes’ power-play goal at 3:05 of the third put New Jersey ahead 5-3 and stood as the game-winner against Cam Talbot, who played his 500th game.

Hamilton beat Talbot from the high slot on the power play at 16:05 to make it 2-1. The Red Wings used a coach's challenge for goaltender interference on Stefan Noesen, but the call on the ice was upheld after video review, and Detroit receivd a two-minute penalty for delay of game.

Stefan Noesen scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and the visiting New Jersey Devils held on for a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday afternoon.

The Red Wings worked like a light switch today. They’d be on for the first half of the period and flip off and let New Jersey score twice in the last ten minutes of both of the first two periods.
