Sirens sounded across Israel and multiple people were injured on Sunday in rocket strikes from Lebanon, the Israeli military said, as the Lebanese Army recorded another fatality from an Israeli attack.

The attacks came in response to deadly Israeli strikes in Beirut while negotiators pressed on with cease-fire efforts to halt the all-out war.

The U.N. Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1701 in August 2006 as part of a cease-fire that ended Israel’s last war with Lebanon. The resolution sought to create a buffer zone in southern Lebanon to prevent fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, but has failed to keep the peace.
