A high-speed police chase that began in Virginia ended in Maryland before sunrise Tuesday with a car crash that left two youths linked to a suspected robbery hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown said his office’s independent investigations division was at the scene of the vehicle collision near Route 301 and Port Tobacco Road in the town of La Plata.
