Health officials in Ohio are sounding the alarm as cases of whooping cough, also known as pertussis, are on the rise.

Ohio is experiencing a surge in cases of whooping cough, likely due to missed vaccinations and masking during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the CDC is warning that the case count will continue to rise if measures to vaccinate and mask are ignored.

Washington state officials warned of a "sharp increase" in whooping cough cases compared to this time last year, mirroring a nationwide trend.
