As millions of Americans are heading home after their Thanksgiving celebration, LAX is expecting over 200,000 passengers to go through the airport on Monday.

A storm that was pounding California's Sierra Nevada with snow Tuesday took aim at the Colorado Rockies and could roll east and slam the Appalachians on Thanksgiving Day, bringing unsettled travel weather to millions of Americans hitting the skies and roads for the holiday weekend.

The Transportation Security Administration said it expected to screen 18.3 million travelers from Tuesday through Monday — about 6 percent more than in 2023. AAA, the automobile organization, expects a record number of travelers, including nearly 72 million motorists.

The Lacey Centennial Station was bustling as sold out Amtrak Cascades trains made their way up and down the I-5 corridor Tuesday.

Nearly 80 million Americans traveled for the Thanksgiving holiday. Snow made driving conditions heading home treacherous in parts of Pennsylvania, New York and the upper Midwest. Kris Van Cleave shows how the storm impacted travelers by air and car.
