Manassas-based Micron, a semiconductor chip manufacturer, is expected to receive up to $275 million in federal funding to upgrade and expand its local facility.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has finalized a subsidy of more than $6.1 billion for Micron Technology, marking one of the largest government awards to chip companies under the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act.

The U.S. government will support Micron Technology, America’s largest maker of memory chips. On Tuesday, the Biden administration announced the Commerce Department has awarded $6.165 billion to Micron via direct funding from the Chips and Science Act.

The US Commerce Department announced it has awarded memory chip maker Micron Technology with “up to $6.165 billion in direct funding” derived from the CHIPS Act. The new funding will go towards multiple semiconductor manufacturing projects in the US,

The commerce department and Micron have also agreed to preliminary terms for an additional investment of $275 million to expand the chipmaker's facility in Manassas, Virginia, which primarily manufactures chips sold in the automotive,
