Thousands of fake Gibson electric guitars were seized this week in California that could have sold for millions of dollars, according to officials.

Federal officials have seized more than $18 million in fake Gibson guitars in what was the largest counterfeit musical instrument seizure in history.

Over 3,000 counterfeit Gibsons – along with a handful of fake Fenders, Gretsch guitars, and PRS guitars – were seized after arriving in the US in ocean containers from Asia

The guitars were seized as part of a multiagency law enforcement investigation, making it the largest counterfeit musical instrument seizure on record.

At a glance, the Gibson guitars look like some of the most coveted six-stringed instruments in the world, including signature models played by Dave Grohl that sell for up to $10,000 and some that looked as if they had been autographed by Slash.

Authorities are calling it the largest seizure of counterfeit musical instruments at the busiest container port in North America.
