Carlos Tavares is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer of Stellantis, effective immediately, following a sharp decline in the carmaker’s sales. As the Wall Street Journal notes, in July, the company reported that its net profit for the first half of the year had dropped by 48 percent compared to 2023.

Stellantis, the maker of Chrysler, Jeep, Fiat and Peugeot among other brands, announced Sunday that embattled CEO Carlos Tavares has resigned due to differences with the board and in the face of disappointing sales and calls for his ouster.

Carlos Tavares, who had been under fire and was expected to leave at the end of his contract, resigned abruptly on Sunday.
